Edmund Le Brun and Flore de Taisne- Founders of ISHKAR and Forbes 30 under 30 for Social Enterprise Achievement

Edmund Le Brun and Flore de Taisne set up ISHKAR after living in Afghanistan for three years. In 2018 Flore and Edmund were listed on Forbes 30 under 30 list for their achievements in social enterprise.

ISHKAR is a social enterprise designing and sourcing high end craftsmanship from countries at war. Our mission is to create employment where it is desperately needed, and use craftsmanship as a way to show the world a side to war-torn countries rarely seen in the news.

Each week, What Matters Most interviews a revolutionary leader from the business and activism world about what is most important to them in their life and work. We are deeply inspired by these people and we hope our readers will be too!

When were you happiest in your life? What do you put that happiness down to?

The early days of setting up ISHKAR in Afghanistan. The sense of fulfillment which comes from building a positive solution in the face of severe challenges.

What's the one thing you wish you knew 20 years ago? If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?

Take risks. Even if they don’t pay off you’ll learn faster than playing it safe.

What matters the most to you in your work and why?

Changing perceptions of countries at war. These are places of rich heritage and culture, not just places of violence and conflict.
